I’m taking a break from talking about our new build, The Creek Classic, to post another room reveal from our previous house, The Sweetbay Sanctuary. The aqua mudroom! This room was the true workhorse of our home, and the only reason I haven’t posted about it earlier is because it was ALWAYS a mess. True story. Bloggers’ homes do not always look perfectly put together. At least mine definitely doesn’t. But onto the reveal of our colorful and functional aqua mudroom.
The mudroom was the very first room we painted at The Sweetbay Santuary. We installed built ins shortly after we moved in, and I figured it was easier to paint the walls before they went in rather than working around all of the painted woodwork. I chose a color I’d seen in a model home years before called Benjamin Moore Forget Me Not 2049-60. The color is a bit tricky to photograph, as it casts a strong greenish tinge on the woodwork, but in real life, this room was so bright and airy and was honestly one of my favorite rooms in our house.
The artwork on the left was painted by my grandma, who was a very talented painter. She taught me a bit about painting and helped me with a landscape in kindergarten that ended up winning a district wide art award. Sadly, I contracted chicken pox and was a spotty mess the night I accepted it. My mom tried covering my spots with makeup, but there’s only so much you can do with chicken pox! Anyway, I’m very thankful to have one of my grandma’s paintings!
Our original mudroom plan only included the four lockers, but when we started dreaming about the possibilities, Adam told me to figure out what I’d want if there was no budget, get pricing, and then eliminate anything that was too much money. Because we had a cabinet maker in our family build these after the fact, and I did the painting myself, the lockers, bench, and accessories storage shelf came in more than $1000 less than our original bid from the builder for just the lockers! So we decided to go with all of it!
Each of us had a locker with multiple hooks, and I can tell you, they did not normally look like these pictures! They were usually stuffed to overflowing, and you might be surprised at the worst offender… Adam!
As I mentioned, the bench was an afterthought, but it got a ton of use as a place to sit and put shoes on. Also, a heater vent was in one of the cubbies and it was a great place to stick cold shoes to warm them up before heading out during frigid MN winters! Adam also used that feature the most. He really loved this mudroom. He often mentioned that it was his favorite room in the house. 🙂
The pink bins were dollar store finds, and not at all what I originally intended for this space (natural fiber baskets), but I actually love the pop of color in the space. #happyaccident
Looking back the other way, the accessories storage shelf looks semi-organized in this picture, but once again, was usually stuffed to the max. We acheived maximum usage out of this aqua mudroom!
The rug was a Home Goods find. 100% wool Loloi, and it held up really well! It may make an appearance at the new place…
The little gold mirror was a $5 Walmart cheapie. I always planned on replacing it with something more substantial, but it did the trick!
Overall, the decor in this room was super simple, mostly because this room was much more functional than pretty. It was nice to have a tiny bit of pretty thrown in though. 😉
I’ll wrap up now with a couple final detail shots.
Do you have a mudroom? If so, do you manage to keep it organized? And HOW? Help a girl out and give me some tips in the comments below!

Great blog post! I did love that mud room, I’m sure the next one will be awesome too.
I’m sure we’ll love the next one too. Excited to get in there!
