Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour

I am so excited to be participating in my first Christmas Home Tour with a few other interior loving bloggers. I have slightly eclectic taste, but the most common elements running through my decorating style are my love of color, and my love of glam. So this will be a colorful glam Christmas home tour!

If you’re stopping by from Simply Beautiful by Angela, welcome! This little blog of mine is where I share my passion for interiors, DIY, and decor on a budget. I also share some client projects from my part time interior styling business. So welcome. I’m so glad you popped by!

Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour

I’ve decorated in jewel tones since Adam and I spent our first married Christmas together… That November he and I walked the aisles of Joann (Fabric at that time) with his sister, and they laughed as I enthusiastically picked out fuchsia and teal ornaments. And teased me over my adamance that we have a fake tree. 17 years later, fuchsia and teal are still my “go to” colors, and I am still a big proponent of faux (yep, I’m fancier now) trees.

Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Kitchen Dining Room

We’re starting this little tour in my kitchen and dining area. My new rug came a week and a half ago, and it was the perfect choice. The size works much better than our older smaller ones (my chairs can finally hang out at the ends!), and I love how it pulls so many of my favorite jewel tones together.

I’ve added little Christmas-y touches in this area, like the ornaments (some of these are my originals!) hanging from the chandelier, the wreath on the table filled with ornaments, and some pink Target vases found for $1 at Goodwill. Find similar ornaments here.

You can purchase the same chandelier here. It needs to be assembled, but for the price, you won’t find anything better in the crystal chandelier department… You could pay 3-4 times more to buy one that comes assembled!

Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Kitchen Dining Room - Gold Nativity Set

The thrifted nativity set I spray painted Rustoleum Metallic Gold occupies a place of honor on my vintage black hutch. The milk glass is all thrifted, and I love the pop of color the pink and teal ornaments add!

I have always loved the timeless contrast of black and white, and while I view animal print as a neutral, the cow print on my World Market Domino stools still feels a bit unexpected and modern.

I stuck to a simple and inexpensive island centerpiece, because we spend a ton of time at this island, eating, crafting, doing homework, coloring, etc… And little hands can’t resist! The pink vase and votive holders are all from Target found for pennies on the dollar at Goodwill. I love the thrill of a good thrift store find! The branches are from my backyard, glammed up with a bit more of favorite Rustoleum spray paint.

Speaking of kids, we’ve decorated multiple gingerbread houses this year, and because I’m a mom, these gorgeous creations proudly occupy a corner of my countertops. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Our table, one of the last nods to Adam’s rustic taste (BTW, thank you, babe, for letting me use so much pink in our home!!) can be found here.

Moving into the living room, you can see the DIY tassel blanket I just made, which I’ll be posting about next week. I love the whimsical feel and the pops of color, and the blanket is seriously SOO soft!

Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and TealSome of my ornaments are originals, but quite a few have broken over the years, so I’ve purchased some additional shatter proof ones since having kids. I used to stay away from traditional Christmas colors, but I fell in love with these Christmas stockings the year I was pregnant with my girlie, and in order to tie them in, I’ve started mixing the red and green in with my teal and pink and purple, and I love the eclectic mix. I used to feel like red and pink shouldn’t hang out together, but in the last couple of years, I’ve definitely changed my mind about that. Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - DIY Tassel BlanketMy side table is a recent Goodwill find. It’s from Target’s Project 62 line, but for some reason it was at Goodwill for only $30! The little Santa perched atop the table is another thrifted item spray painted gold. If you hadn’t noticed, I love gold spray paint. 😉Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - DIY Tassel BlanketI know bottle brush trees have been around for years, but I’ve really just taken notice of them this year, and snatched up a few in the $5 and below section at Target. Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Bottle Brush Trees - Coffee Table StylingI struggled with my tree a bit this year, probably partially because I knew this post would inevitably happen. Adam did his yearly “lights duty” and then the kids and I decorated it, which meant the tree ended up a little bottom heavy. After we were done, I decided I wanted to add ribbon, so one day while they were at school I un-decorated the whole thing.

I bought the tree clearance a few years back in January (the BEST time to buy faux Christmas trees!), and since we didn’t plug it in until the following November, I was a little late in realizing that the lights are pretty wonky. The ones on the bottom are way brighter than the top. So we add additional lights to try to even it out, but this year somehow when the lights are on, there is one darker band about a foot up from the bottom that makes it look like more poor tree is wearing a tutu.

Between the goofy lights and my indecisiveness, the tree decorating was pretty delayed this year. Next year I’m putting it up November 1st! I ultimately settled on some teal ribbon from Hobby Lobby (similar found here), and I love the pop of color, but for some reason the ribbon placement looks way goofier in photos than it does in person. At least it is colorful and cheerful and makes our family happy. Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Christmas Tree RibbonI love the slightly traditional, slightly whimsical feel of our stockings. I’m sure someday I’ll replace them with teal and pink versions, but for now these do the trick. Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Red and Green Christmas StockingsJewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Red and Green Christmas StockingsThe kids love that our names are embroidered on the stockings, and they have fun moving them around to different hooks (Mama next to Daddy, Mama next to brother, etc…).Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Red and Green Christmas StockingsWe’ve debated about built ins on either side of the fireplace, but for now we have settled for these white Ikea Besta storage cabinets, which work great to hide toys and give me a fun surface to style. I created some quick Christmas typography printables in my colors and added them to my black and white frames, to bring a bit more of a Christmas feel in. Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Ikea Besta - Shelf StylingJewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Ikea Besta - Shelf StylingThe kids had fun last weekend hanging ornaments on my hand me down faux ficus (a gift from my mom) in our foyer. I like that guests get a bit of Christmas cheer as soon as they step in the door! Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Gold and Teal - Foyer - Entry wayJewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Gold and Teal - Foyer - Entry wayThis angle of our living room from the entry way gives a good view of my Ikea coffee table makeover, my grandma’s antique table to the left, and the Home Goods mirrored cabinet I found shortly after we moved in four years ago.  Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Christmas Tree Our “family rules” are colorfully printed on a canvas, and I love that some of the values our family stands for are prominently on display. Jewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Mirrored Cabinet - Family RulesJewel Tone - Colorful Glam Christmas Home Tour - Living Room - Pink and Teal - Mirrored Cabinet - Family RulesThat wraps up our colorful glam Christmas home tour.
