Even though I revealed my painted fireplace here, I’ve never actually posted a full reveal of my colorful glam living room. That’s partially because it has always felt like a work in progress… To be honest, it still feels like that! Especially as a few days after shooting the photos for this post, I realized how much I am gravitating to white walls and softer colors. So this is probably not the last version of this colorful glam living room you’ll see. My current design situation contains less color than my Christmas version, and the next iteration may be even less colorful!
Somehow even though my mind is aware of my shifting tastes, when I went out shopping with a friend last week, I still found myself gravitating to all of the same deep vibrant colors. I had to stop myself repeatedly from picking up fuchsia pillows and throws and accessories. Old habits die hard, I guess. 😉 For now I’ll enjoy these vibrant colors, and when it’s time for another refresh, I’ll remind myself to stick with more neutrals and softer pinks and blues…
A design loving friend told me maybe this style shift is happening because my mind feels cluttered, and I’m subconsciously craving more visual space to breathe. Such an interesting theory, especially because I believe that the state of our house is definitely reflected into our mental state. But enough philosophizing (is that a word? It feels like a word!), and onto my colorful glam living room!

I’ve made quite a few changes to this space since we moved in. As you can see, we recently mounted our TV above the fireplace. Disclaimer: I am totally NOT a “fireplace over the TV” girl. I actually hate it! And here’s a confession. We mounted the TV over three weeks ago, but spent so much time trying to get it level that we forgot to plug the cord into the back of the television. So this TV doesn’t even work currently. And we haven’t missed it! It really tempts me to take the whole thing down. BUT I will admit that when we have family over for Thanksgiving and there is a “big game” on (my mom says, “There’s always a big game on!” and I’m pretty sure she’s right), it’s nice to keep everyone on one level instead of relegating the football watching men to to the basement. Then where would we put the kids?! 😉
Anyway, back to the TV. My preference here would be an amazing piece of art, but since we’re committed to keeping the TV in my colorful glam living room, it’s much less of an eye sore now that it’s mounted. I still need to find something amazing to style next to it, but I was working with what I had here.
Another big change I made was pulling a lot of the color off of my Ikea cabinets and keeping the styling much more simple and neutral. There is still color, but it’s much softer.
Of course I still have pink in the space, but there is much less of it than we’ve seen in previous versions of this space.
The round Project 62 mirrors are another recent addition, and I feel like they help balance and distract from the bulkiness of the TV.
The only other changes to this space are some new throw pillows.
The pink and white triangles throw pillow in the gray chair can be found at World Market.
The black and cream patterned one on the left was also a World Market purchase and doesn’t seem to be available anymore, but you can find a similar look here.
The aqua pillow on the left is a Threshold brand pillow I found for $5 at Goodwill. Similar can be found here.
The fuchsia velvet pillow on the right is from the new Target Opalhouse collection, and the cobalt blue and aqua lumbar pillow is another World Market find from their outdoor pillow collection, AND it’s on sale right now! Tip: Mixing in outdoor pillows works as long as you have other richer textures present in your pillow mix. The tassel blanket was a DIY, and the coffee table was a secondhand Ikea hack.
Since I haven’t done a true living room reveal before, I also want to share sources for some of the other furniture and accessories that I’ve had for a while…
The black and white frame was a Home Goods clearance find for $12, and the watercolor typography art in it was given to me by a client. The beautiful marble and wood box was a birthday gift from my sister in law, and I believe she purchased it at Patina, a little boutique chain in the Twin Cities. It’s so nice to have family and friends with great taste! The gold sunburst mirror was another Home Goods clearance find, and you can grab the nearly identical one at Anthropologie.
The black and white striped container was in the Bullseye’s Playground section at Target for $5, the black and white patterned one is from World Market, and the pink vase was a Goodwill find from Target. The floral art is from Hobby Lobby and the other piece is a free printable in a Home Goods frame.
Looking back toward the foyer, you’ll see my $25 Kate Spade lamp, another Home Goods clearance find. An updated stripeless version of the same lamp sells for $399… If you know how to look, Home Goods can be the most amazing place to shop!
My pink coffee table tray is a DIY from a $4 ugly green clearance find at Target.
The teal planter on the table to the left is from Ikea, and the table it’s sitting on is an antique that has been in my family since the 1880’s!! I remember noticing it in my grandma’s house even as a young kid, and I am so thankful to have such a beautiful piece that’s been passed down in our family for generations.
The milk glass on grandma’s table is thrifted, and the candle was a gift from my sister in law.
The yellow flowers are from Home Goods, the gold object was a Target clearance find, and the book and tea light holder are both from the dollar store. Clearly I’m very budget conscious when decorating my home!
The little mirrored cabinet is where we store our board games and puzzles, and I found it at Home Goods right after we moved into this home. It was one of the first pieces I bought for this house, besides our sofa and the blue settee (also from Home Goods). The canvas art was a custom piece I had made by an etsy seller.
That pretty much sums up my list of sources, so the rest of this post will be dedicated to a few more pictures of my colorful glam living room. I’d love to hear what you think about it!
Thanks for touring my colorful glam living room! Today is our first official day of summer break, so I’m off to hang out with my kiddos! It’s so bittersweet that kindergarten and third grade are over, as it feels like they are growing up way too fast. However, I am VERY excited about break. We have plans for slow (read: lazy) mornings, long bike rides to the park and a fishing hole Adam and Kaden recently discovered, and warm summer days at the lake. What are you most looking forward to this summer?
