Eclectic Glam: The Creek Classic Kitchen Reveal

Last week I shared the inspiration for The Creek Classic Eclectic Glam Kitchen design, and this week I’m so excited for the big reveal! I took these pictures the day we moved in while Adam was painting the garage floor. I had to take advantage of my one and only chance to get the “clean slate” photographs, as we have a LOT of stuff… More than we need or know what to do with, I’m quickly realizing. Right when I think we have everything under control and feel pretty good about the state of our house, we bring in another load from my parents’ house (thanks, Mom and Dad, for being so patient with us while we get settled!). And then I think, “Whose stuff is this? Where did all of it come from?” But I digress. My non-minimalistic tendencies are not the reason you’re tuning in, or the reason for this post. So let’s move on the The Creek Classic kitchen reveal!

When deciding which angle of The Creek Classic kitchen to share first (I love them all so much), I had to go with the wall I was most anticipated from our very first kitchen design meeting. I knew I wanted a range hood that would be the focal point, and boy did this beauty deliver! At least I think so. Maybe you disagree, but I love it!

Adam and I are huge fans of Southern exposure on the back of our house. We’ve built three homes, and each one faced North with the backyard getting Southern exposure. This bathes our main living area with tons of natural light, which is so fabulous for living, but photographs become a bit tricky unless it’s a cloudy day. Which this was not. Clearly. So certain angles were really difficult to photograph well.

Our last house had a walk in pantry, which I absolutely loved, but there was no logical place to add it with this floor plan, so we decided to go with floor to ceiling cabinets along the left kitchen wall. I love the way it looks, but I’m surprised to find that I really enjoy it from an organizational standpoint too. Organization is not my greatest strength, but I’m really working to put systems in place so we can keep it looking and functioning in a way that serves our family.

The gorgeous cabinetry was all done by Oleg of Cabco Cabinetry. I was concerned about going with inset cabinetry, because I’ve heard over and over how badly it can warp, but Oleg explained how he uses a special machine to create each door out of ONE piece… No seams! Which means my beautiful cabinets will stay warp free!

Going with a blue-gray island color, Sherwin Williams Stardew, felt a bit risky, but my favorite design decisions usually stretch me a bit away from “safe.” In The Creek Classic kitchen reveal, you can see the results of those decisions, including the island color, the black range hood, and the white appliances… All of which I LOVE.

I didn’t get a good shot of the counters from above, but they are MSI Quartz Statuary Classique. I stood in MSI’s warehouse for over two hours debating between this and the more popular Calacatta Laza., At one point, I actually decided to go with Calacatta Laza, left the building, and made it as far as my car, where I called our builder, Paul of Precision Homes, to tell him my selection. As I talked to him, I realized I didn’t feel 100% sure, and he told me, “You are there, go back inside right now and look at the slabs. Pick your exact slabs and have them marked.” I am SO glad I listened to him and did exactly that, because the softer Statuary Classique, with the gray-blue veining mimicking Statuary marble, was definitely the right choice. As gorgeous as the Laza is, it’s bright white background leans a bit more modern in my mind, and almost felt harsh compared to some of our other selections. The softer tones in the Statuary Classique feels perfect with the slightly more traditional bones of The Creek Classic kitchen.

Alex of Granite and Marble Direct cut and finished the counters, and he did a great job matching the veining up to keep everything as cohesive as possible.

We also used a smaller piece of that same quartz above the range.  The backsplash is honed marble subway tile, which can absorb food and stains rather easily, so a slab of quartz felt a bit safer from a practicality standpoint. Plus, it’s just so pretty.

The lantern pendants were a bargain from Wayfair, but when they came, the color was all wrong and looked pretty cheap. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my story where I spray painted them using Rustoleum Metallic Gold? The original darker color still shows through in a few spots, and I was impatient, so the spray paint is definitely imperfect, but it gives it a very cool vintage feel that I actually really love! Happy accident. 🙂

The GE Cafe appliances were a splurge, but they make such a statement by NOT making a statement, if that makes sense. They are gorgeous, but they also blend in very well with the surrounding cabinetry. At first I was unsure about how bronze the hardware is compared to my brass cabinet pulls, but the Delta Trinsic faucet in Champagne Gold and the lantern pendants fall somewhere in between the cabinet pulls and the appliance handles, and after a day or so, I realized I actually like that everything isn’t matchy matchy. I have a ton of different gold/bronze tones in my house, and we are just going with it! What’s more eclectic glam than a whole lot of gold?!

Our hickory engineered wood floors (similar here) give the entire main floor a bright and airy almost coastal feel. And they don’t show nearly as many crumbs as the darker hand scraped maple we had at our last house.

Figuring out how to organize our kitchen has been interesting because the layout is so different from our last house, and we’ve had a few redo’s, but I think we are making progress. And I love the open feel with so much space between the perimeter and the island. The other night, we were eating dinner at the island, and Adam made the comment that it felt like a bar at a high end restaurant or something. Having the angles makes the space so much more conducive to conversations!

All in all, we love how the kitchen came together! It’s definitely my favorite area in our home. Although to be fair, right now it’s about the only space that feels organized, so maybe I’ll feel differently once I figure out where to put everything in the rest of our house. 😉

I’ll wrap up with a few additional pictures. Drop me a comment below and let me know what you think of The Creek Classic kitchen reveal! Would you ever use three different colors in a kitchen design, or do you prefer to play it a bit safer?

    1. I’m not a risk taker by nature either, so I get it! It’s fun to push those boundaries sometimes though!
