Happy April Fools! Just a heads up that there are no jokes in this post. 😉 It’s been a while! Pretty much forever, really. Tons going on behind the scenes here… Listing our home for sale, accepting an offer, checking out builders, everything that goes with moving, a quick five day birthday trip to Florida for me, as well as a separate ten day Florida trip as a family for spring break. I’ll have some fun updates on all of that soon, but I wanted to pop on quick to post this navy and coral tween bedroom I had the pleasure of working on recently!
My friend Kathy wanted to give her 12 year old daughter a little bedroom update, and since she already had blue bedding, she asked for suggestions for complimentary colors. I love pink and blue together, but her daughter, Mary, wasn’t too fired up about the pink, so we went with coral instead, which works equally well with navy and other shades of blue (opposite ends of the color wheel).

Besides the bedding, the jumping off point of the room is this gorgeous (and affordable!) rug, also seen here. Mary’s existing nightstand and dresser were worked in, and the white Ikea book shelf was also existing.
The navy headboard is a Wayfair find that is both sophisticated and fun. The coral Ikat pillows are also from Wayfair. Similar can be found here.
The wall color is Sherwin Williams Repose Gray, a neutral gray with tiny hints of purpley-blue undertones. This wall color works well in just about any space!
I work on projects in all different capacities, from just offering guidance and direction, to creating renders (a visual of what your room will look like once the design is done), to full service design (check out my services page for more info). Kathy is a gifted artist, so I knew she’d be able to pull most of the room together by herself. After I offered direction with the initial concept and a few pieces of feedback along the way, Kathy did all of the shopping! She found this amazing chair at Home Goods–the perfect addition to the navy and coral tween bedroom–and the fabric pattern works so well with the slightly tribal feel of the rug.
The tripod lamp is from Target, fluffy faux fur ottoman is from Pier 1 (the pink like it is on sale), and the side table is another Home Goods find.
The bulletin board and artwork are also from Home Goods, and the clock was a custom present for Mary (a volleyball lover) from Amazon.
A complete source list is found at the end of this post. Here are a few more pictures of the room. I love that it is colorful and fun, but sophisticated enough where Mary won’t outgrow it too quickly.
In my mind, the details make the design and what really makes a room feel complete.
If a design is done correctly, it should be a true reflection of the inhabitant of the space. Kathy did a great job incorporating those personalized details that give the room life and personality.
