This home tour of our colorful glam Christmas decor was supposed to be up last week, but it’s funny how all of the extra activities this time of year seem to take up more time than I actually realize. I started decorating early this year and had our tree up before Thanksgiving, but I’ve been slowly adding layer after layer. I’ve even added one tiny little item (colorful wool ball garland) to our fireplace since I took these pictures! But this is pretty close to what our colorful glam Christmas decor looks like this year. On a side note, it’s sort of funny to me that last year’s home tour was posted exactly a year ago!
Because I took so many photos and had a hard time narrowing them down, I’ve divided this home tour into two parts. Part I is focused on the living room and foyer, and Part II showing the kitchen and dining room is posted here!

I went a bit more minimal this year, keeping my artwork the same as always, but the house still feels really festive and cheerful.
The biggest change I made this year was ordering new stockings from Anthropologie (thank you, Adam, for my early Christmas present!). The embroidered red and green ones I ordered seven years ago shown in last year’s post are super cute, but I got tired of decorating around red and green when my heart lies more with teal and fuchsia tones. And I’ve had my eye on a couple of these stockings for years.
Seriously, Anthropologie knocks it out of the park with their stockings. They are a bit pricier than other options, but if I get another seven years out of them, I’d say it’s worth it! So I went more “neutral” to ensure longevity of these stocking. You all know that pink IS a neutral in my book. ๐
The Geo stocking is one I fell in love with last year and found brand new on eBay for $25, but the rest are all this season from Anthropologie. The pink is sold out, but the furry one and the pom pom one are currently available. AND they are on sale right now. Unfortunately, they were not when I purchased them. I guess I should have been a bit more patient!
The other major change this year is that I added batting to the tree. I would LOVE a flocked tree, but don’t want to spend the money when we already have a perfectly great tree that works. Eventually I’d love to have multiples, but for now this is it.
The batting was a total whim. After what can only be termed a Christmas tree decorating fiasco in which my normally well behaved children jumped on my furniture, broke things, and got into multiple arguments, thereby ruining my visions of a lovely family night spent peacefully listening to Christmas music and decorating the tree, I stood staring in frustration at the tree, which I had completely stripped back down to bare.
“Batting!” I exclaimed. Adam just looked at me in confusion. I ran up to the craft room, grabbed a bag of batting I’ve had for years (the craft room is a virtual treasure trove of abandoned creative projects… You seriously never know what you could find in there), ran back downstairs, and proceeded to place clumps of batting on our tree.
I had no clue how it would look, but after recruiting the kids to help (and then removing the LARGE clumps they had enthusiastically globbed onto the tree), I was pretty pleased with the results. While it doesn’t look like a flocked tree, the white does feel reminiscent of snow, and I think it plays nicely with my colorful glam Christmas decor.
Unlike ribbon, there is no true art to adding batting to your tree. I tried to distribute it evenly, and that’s about all there was to it. You can use any inexpensive sewing batting, such as this bag.
The ribbon takes a bit more thought, but really isn’t too tricky. The key is to push it back into the depths of the tree at regular intervals to give visual fullness. To make it stay, I usually bend a branch to hold it in place, which is one of the benefits of a faux tree. You could just loop it around a branch on a real tree though, achieving similar results.
I used two different ribbons, which was a happy accident. I thought I purchased two of the polka dot spools last year from Hobby Lobby, but since I didn’t end up using them, they got tucked away in the storage room, and when I hunted for them this year, I only found one. I ran to our local Hobby Lobby to purchase another, but they were out, so I snatched up a roll of the black and gold stripes (not available online, as far as I can tell). I actually like the variety, especially since I went a bit simpler with the ornaments, using primarily gold and a few pops of fuchsia and teal.
My thrifted trees I spray painted gold have returned in a new spot alongside a gorgeous faux floral arrangement I found on clearance from Pier 1 and my favorite Anthropologie Capri Blue Volcano candle.
I mentioned last year that the lights on our tree have never functioned properly, with the lower tier of lights shining much brighter than the rest. Well, I’m not sure if it was user error or a gift from above, but this year when Adam plugged the lights in, they all shone brightly! Evenly! It’s a Christmas Miracle! ๐
As I mentioned before, I kept my artwork on my cabinets the same as it has been, but I added this large thrifted Santa I spray painted gold last year, as well as a new thrifted brass bowl and silver candlesticks. I love the way they add a classic feel to my colorful glam Christmas decor.
I have other little gold touches of Christmas scattered throughout the room, all thrifted and spray painted. Arabella pointed out a couple of days ago that there is “no sign of Jesus” in this room, so I’ll need to remedy that soon. She makes me a proud mama that she is more focused on Jesus than Santa!
This trio of bottlebrush trees from Target are the minimal trace of Christmas on my Grandma’s antique table, but I think they get the point across.
Moving on into the foyer now… And also giving you a view of my beloved new blue velvet English roll arm sofa. Which is also cheaper than I paid right now if you’re in the market!
I have very minimal Christmas decor in the foyer, but enough where it feels festive!
The pom pom wreath was an impulse purchase from Target’s Opalhouse collection. The eclectic feel of that line fits right into my colorful glam Christmas decor!
The other additions to the foyer are the fuchsia ornaments I placed on my ficus and a gold bolster pillow on my chair.
Moving back into the living room for a few final shots of colorful glam Christmas decor.
The other carry over from last year is this pom pom blanket I DIYed. It is the softest thing ever, and I love the whimsical pops of color it adds!
Just a few final photos in this colorful glam Christmas decor home tour!
Be sure to check back on Monday for Part II of our colorful glam Christmas decor home tour, but here’s a sneak peek!

Kristen, this is all so beautiful! The batting is brilliant. I like it even better than flocked trees!
Aw, thank you! I love how it turned out, but Iโm glad to hear that because sometimes when you do something different like that, you start to second guess your judgment. So itโs nice to get another opinion! ๐
This is all so cute!! So fun for a young family. ๐ The ribbon and batting look great and I love the crown! The entry is absolutely adorable. Great job! Marry Christmas!
Thanks so much, Terri! I appreciate you popping by to check it out!
And Merry Christmas to you too!
