It’s been a wild and bumpy ride, but One Room Challenge reveal week is finally here! I’d like to say a big thank you to Linda of Calling It Home and media partner Better Homes & Gardens for hosting this fun decorating challenge that brings together designers and DIYers from all over the globe. We may question our sanity during the middle of the process, but the satisfaction of completing a space is so worth it in the end, and knowing we are in it together makes everything more fun. I’ll keep the wordiness to a minimum, since I have a ton of pictures of Arabella’s Modern European Pink Girl’s Bedroom to share, but I’ll just say that my girl’s enjoyment of her bedroom is the icing on the cake for me. Last night she slept in her newly finished room for the first time, and she exclaimed, “Mama, this looks like a room that should be in a magazine, but it’s MINE!!” And she even made her bed this morning without being asked because she wanted it to look pretty. That makes every second I spent wedged between the wall and a ladder holding crown molding up with my left arm and a heavy nail gun up with my right completely worth it.
I’d like to thank Vinylic Stickers Shop for the gorgeous wall mural they gifted me. It’s definitely the star of the show, and this One Room Challenge space would not be the same without it! This post also contains affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase after clicking on a link, I may receive a commission, but at no additional cost to you. See my full disclosure here.
I’m so disappointed in how the picture quality is uploading to WordPress. In my computer, the images are gorgeous and crisp, but as soon as I upload them to WordPress, they get blurry. I’ve read numerous articles and despite trying a lot of different things, I can’t get them to come out clearer. If you have any tips, please help!
I’ll share sources as we go, but without further adieu, here is Arabella’s Modern European Pink Girl’s Bedroom!
Vinylic Stickers Shop generously gifted me this mural, and I cannot say enough good things about this product. It is durable, beautiful, and was a breeze to install. Check out more information about install here.
Can we dwell a little bit longer on how pretty it is?! Such a statement! #obsessed
The lamps were Home Good finds, the faux flowers are from Kirkland’s, and the little “A” jewelry tray was from Hobby Lobby.
On the other nightstand (a throwback from the first One Room Challenge I participated in), the small crown and pink votive holder are also from Hobby Lobby, and I stole a plant from Adam’s nightstand for the pictures. It would be fun to do a “for pictures vs. real life” post… Because I can tell you that some of this stuff has already been shuffled around. I think playing with styling is half of the fun of decorating a space!
Looking back in the other direction, we have the built in bookcases I built from old maple cabinets my parents had in their first lake home.
I’m not going to lie, I have a bit of built in envy. I’m definitely going to have to incorporate something similar into our master bedroom when I finally tackle that space.
The lower cabinets offer tucked away space for Arabella’s books and toys (so I don’t have to look at it!). The bling-y Liberty Hardware cabinet knobs she picked out from Home Depot offer a punch of girly glam in this modern European pink girl’s bedroom. Similar here.
And of course the actual shelves offer so many fun styling opportunities!
I wanted to tie in the fuchsia from the nighstands and the wall mural, but overall keep the styling light and airy.
I also wanted to give the shelves a glamorous feel, yet keep them youthful enough that an eight year old would love them.
I like to think that I’ve found that perfect balance by incorporating various pinks, lots of gold, a little silver, and some items Arabella actually uses, like the tiara.
The dolly on the right is a Home Goods find we purchased because she’s cute for pictures, but the one on the left is Arabella’s actually “Dolly” that she’s slept with since the day she was born. Dolly has seen better days and is overdue for a body transplant (her third).
You can see that she currently has no arms.
A couple of portraits in frames, as well as a family picture, give the shelves a personalized feel. I really wanted Arabella to feel ownership over her modern European pink girl’s bedroom by incorporating items and themes that are special to her.
Arabella loves horses and takes riding lessons, and what’s better than a pretty horse with a horn?! So of course a few unicorns made their way into the décor, and my girl is ecstatic about them! “They’re so cuuuuuuute!”
I custom made the “Though she be but little, she is fierce” print in Photoshop. This Shakespeare quote has reminded me of my girl since she was just a toddler. She has a sweet heart, but she is opinionated, and she will make those opinions known, and she will fight for what she really wants. Arabella means “fierce beauty/beautiful lioness” or “answered prayer,” and both of those meanings fit her so well. We talk a lot about being fierce and conquering fears in our house!
The gold metal frames in the gallery wall were purchased as a set over a year ago at Walmart. They were on clearance on an end cap and I got the entire set for just $12. I knew they would come in handy at some point, and they are just perfect for this space. They have been discontinued, but similar can be found here or here.
The abstract watercolor print on the top left was purchased from etsy, and the rest are freebie printables for signing up for different mailing lists.
At less than $20, it may be the cheapest gallery wall ever made. 😉
The mirror was a free hand me down from my mom, and the jewelry holder was another Home Goods find. Arabella and I had a ton of fun zipping through Home Goods looking for pretty things for her room. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a shopping partner for life in her.
My sweet girl is fierce, but oh so girly, and she is pumped to have a place to hang all of her jewelry. I had to streamline the items for pictures, but you know she has about 30 more necklaces hanging now!
The comforter is from Target, and we’ve had it since before we moved in. It’s reversible and worked great with our design plan, thankfully, since my sweet girl was not willing to part with it.
I left off the matching shams, and instead highlighted the violet sheet set I found on clearance at Walmart, two white furry throw pillows and a fuchsia throw blanket from Home Goods, and the off white and gold end of bed throw I found on clearance at Target.
The unicorn pillow is the piece de resistance!
The wall and trim color is Benjamin Moore Orleans Violet, in Advance formula satin sheen on the trim, crown and doors, and in Ben formula eggshell finish on the walls.
Painting everything the same color lends a European/French flair I can’t get enough of!
Leaving the window trim white may seem like an odd choice, but I have a white custom blackout Roman shade on order (hopefully it will be here soon… I ordered it on April 10, it was supposed to arrive by May 15, and it’s currently June 24 and it still hasn’t even been made), and I thought the window treatment would stick out like a sore thumb if it was a different color than the window sill and trim.
Plus, I just really didn’t feel like painting it. But I actually sort of love the pop of white!
The chandelier was one I had bookmarked on Wayfair for our old bedroom, but then I actually found it brand new on FB Marketplace for half the price!
We never got around to hanging it at our old house, and Arabella claimed it for her modern European pink girl’s bedroom… It’s the perfect finishing touch!
This size has been discontinued, but the smaller one is still available.
There isn’t a whole lot else to say, so I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
I hope you’ll take time to hop over to the One Room Challenge blog to check out the Featured Designers’ reveals, as well as some of the other Guest Participants’.
