I’d like to thank Vinylic Stickers Shop for the gorgeous wall mural they gifted me. It’s definitely the star of the show, and this One Room Challenge space would not be the same without it! This post also contains affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase after clicking on a link, I may receive a commission, but at no additional cost to you. Some products may have been gifted, but all opinions are my own. See my full disclosure here.
“Better late than never” seems to be my One Room Challenge theme this time around! For the last 7.5 weeks, I’ve been participating in a quick turn around makeover challenge hosted by Linda of Calling It Home and media partner Better Homes & Gardens.
Normally this challenge is six weeks long, but because of Covid-19, it’s been delayed and extended. You’d think the extra time would mean I’m ahead of schedule, but instead I seem to be perpetually behind. Which is why this post is three days later than I planned. I spent almost all of last week painting Arabella’s room. If you remember from previous weeks, I have a running to do list, and here’s where I’m at now:

source beddingpaint nightstands (possibly) – nope!- re-attach bookcase doors
- rub-n-buff cabinet knobs
- touch up paint chips (my cabinets are chipping in spots, despite sanding, priming, and two coats of paint – I’ve never had this issue on real wood before!)
- hang art and accessories
- style nightstands and bookshelves
I’ve added a few items, and Monday and Tuesday of next week are going to be a mad dash to finalize everything before the photoshoot Wednesday! Hopefully I’ll have my reveal post up by that evening.
Because I added architectural moldings that would be painted the same color as the walls, I knew that picking the perfect pink paint color would be crucial. I wanted something subtle and sophisticated, but still pink enough where Arabella loved it. There were a lot of pinks in the mural to choose from, but it also needed to coordinate with the slightly purple pink tone in Arabella’s custom made Skyline Furniture bed (available only to the trade, but similar can be found here).
I also didn’t want the pink to feel too LOUD, as pinks can sometimes. Making an all pink room work and not feel too over the top presents an interesting challenge, especially knowing I wanted to avoid repainting the nightstands if possible. As a big Benjamin Moore paint fan, I narrowed my choices to two soft and subtle pinks–Orleans Violet and Pink Innocence.
Ultimately I ended up choosing Orleans Violet, which is slightly less pigmented, and has a bit more purple than the Pink Innocence.
Orleans Violet felt like the perfect pink paint color for Arabella’s room, and it compliments the mural so well. Here’s a little sneak peak of what it looks like…
I used the Advance paint in Satin finish for the trim, crown molding, doors, and bookcase. I used the Ben line in eggshell finish for the walls, including the lower half of the wall with the chair rail and picture frame moldings. I could have used either sheen for that lower portion of the wall (eggshell gives a more casual Parisian flair, whereas Satin feels more traditional), but the determining factor was timing. I finished painting the crown, trim, and doors at about 11:30 pm one night, and I didn’t want to keep going, so I threw that roller away and moved onto the eggshell finish the next day, instead of dealing with two separate sheens… Might not be the best way to make design decisions, but I love the way it turned out.
Arabella and I hit up Home Goods a few days ago and grabbed a few little accessories to style the bookcase. I’m at the lake right now, but I’m excited to get home and work on the finishing touches of the space on Monday.
I’ll wrap it up now, after sharing this rendering I completed a couple of months ago to make sure I loved my design plan. Pop back in next week to check out the final reveal! Also, remember to check out the other gorgeous One Room Challenge spaces!
