Our entire family is super excited about our new build house, which I’ve dubbed The Creek Classic. This is actually the third home Adam and I have built, but the first fully custom one. We’ve learned something new with each place, and one of the regrets we had with our last one was that we never wrote on the walls. Friends of ours have done that when they’ve built homes, and I love the idea of personalizing your home so that the culture and mindset of our family is written in the walls from the beginning. For our family, that included a few Bible verses adorning our studs, as we want this to be a home dedicated to the Lord and a place where we can serve others for Him. So with that in mind, here are some of the Bible verses we wrote on our studs, as well as some of the other messages we wanted preserved there.
When we thought about verses to bless our home, Joshua 24:15 (NIV) was one of the first to come to mind. “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Adam and I both wrote this in different areas of our home.
Kaden wrote Proverbs 3:33 NLT in the bonus room. “The Lord curses the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.” I think Kaden is even more excited about the bonus room than his own bedroom, and I love that he wanted to write a verse in that space.
2 Samuel 7:29 NIV says, “With your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.” It seemed like a pretty fitting Bible verse to put into the walls of our house.
Another powerful verse we wrote into our walls is Psalm 127:1 NIV. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 NLT actually commands us to write God’s words on our door posts! I didn’t write out the entire verse, but I wanted it inside the walls of our new home. “And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Other verses we wrote out include the following:
Isaiah 32:18 (NIV) – “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.”
Isaiah 28:16 (NIV) – “So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.”
Matthew 7:25 (NIV) – “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Proverbs 14:1 (NLT) – “A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.”
In addition to Bible verses, the kids were really excited about marking their rooms.
Arabella has really worked on her handwriting this summer, and it’s so cute to see how she neatly wrote her name on the opening for her window.
She did a great job!
Kaden also put his name in his room, as well as a few drawings.
Adam and I wrote notes to the kids, and then they started writing notes to each other. We had so much fun with this!
Kaden even wrote the Paul (owner of Precision Homes) and the other guys working on our house a message.
And a few days later I got a text from Paul with a photo of his response. 🙂
If you are building a home, or plan to someday, I highly recommend taking the time to write on your studs. We put our values on the walls of our home and made some beautiful memories with our kids in the process.
This is what the house looked like the day we went to write on the walls. A lot has changed since then, and I’m excited to update you in the upcoming months on all of the changes and the many design decisions I’ve made over the last few weeks.
A few more shots of the progress!
And the beautiful view from the bonus room!
And my living room view.
What do you think of the idea of writing on/in the walls of your home? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Love this…thank you for sharing not only the concept but the picutres….these are priceless!! I love how it sets the intention of this space and brings together the/your family. Inspiring!
Thanks, Faith! Someone asked us if we’d done this about two weeks after our Sheetrock went up in our last home, and we were so bummed that we hadn’t thought of it. So it was a “must do” this time around!
