I did it. I couldn’t take it any more, and a couple of weeks ago–on the Thursday night before we were going out of town for Memorial Weekend–instead of doing laundry, packing, and figuring out what to feed my family for dinner, I ran to Home Depot, bought some white paint, and started painting my fireplace! Sometimes you just gotta paint stuff. 😉
Maybe I need to back up… As I mentioned here, I have never been a huge fan of our fireplace (understatement of the year). But I haven’t ever been able to dive in and start my built ins, because I hate the stone and mantle so much. I don’t have the time or the energy to tear the entire thing out right now, but I’ve never “finished” my living room because the fireplace felt so off from the look I was going for. One of my close friends referred to it as “the elephant in the house,” and that is seriously the perfect description! Since I like to joke that paint fixes everything, after thinking about it for about a week or so (and perusing Pinterest, of course), I decided painting was worth the risk…
Of course, the quick DIY fix turned into a much bigger project than I expected (don’t they all?), because I had to fill the cracks I couldn’t reach with a paintbrush with mortar. So I’m hoping to blog about the project next week, but in the mean time, I wanted to share some of the amazing white painted fireplaces of Pinterest that have inspired me over the last couple of weeks.
I can’t even get over how gorgeous some of these spaces are. These images are what kept me moving when my quick DIY turned out to be a much longer project. Which is your favorite? Would you ever paint your fireplace?
